CHRY is a volunteer-run campus-community radio station. Volunteers keep CHRY vibrant and alive! We have over +200 volunteers and civic broadcasters and are always welcoming of new contributors. If you have any questions about being a volunteer at CHRY, contact chryvol@yorku.ca or call 416-736-2100 ext. 77265.
Start your experience at CHRY by signing up for one of our two mandatory intake orientations. Although not all candidates are eligible to contribute in every role at the station, CHRY is committed to empowering our communities with skill-sets and awareness around the important platform of civic media.
Each stage of our orientation process sets the groundwork for i) understanding the inner workings of an independent, not-for-profit broadcast organization, further underlines roles and opportunities to contribute to CHRY’s 24/7 civic driven broadcasts and ii) participate on in-depth discussions regarding organizational policies and procedures, anti-oppression standards and awareness of licence requirements.
CHRY is one of GTA’s most diverse and progressive campus-based, community stations. We are committed to offering the highest standard of programming; representative of the communities, cultures and languages we engage day-to-day. ALL broadcast facilitators at CHRY are volunteers. CHRY offers a battery of training and practical orientations to successful community candidates. Due to the nature and wide-reach of our open broadcast there are established pre-requisites to various duties at the station (as an extension of our Federal license).
CHRY offers many non-broadcast and broadcast opportunities to learn and/or contribute to the delivery of quality radio on the FM dial. There are over a half dozen program collectives that support skill development toward your goals of producing and/or hosting a radio program. Join one of CHRY’s collectives and learn how to: Board Op., Host, Script Write, Research, Produce and/or Voice content.
If you are interested in starting a process to thoroughly understand and contribute to the programming at CHRY feel free to contact our Volunteer Coordinator at chryvol@yorku.ca for the next scheduled orientation. Both orientations are held each month.
Whether you are a student or community member wanting experience in radio or have a proposed show you feel represents the alternative broadcast goals of CHRY and the communities we serve, please prepare a resume and cover letter to submit when attending the first station orientation. We track the vocational progress of all volunteers in good-standing toward the potential goal of an identified role at CHRY.
CHRY has developed a number of meaningful trainings and experiential roles for members of the community to direct your contributions to alternative radio. We look forward to potentially working with you toward our programming vision.
